Late report Seahawk 9/19 1.5 trip OH BOY
#1

BAD MISTAKE ON GOING FISHING LAST SUNDAY..

Sorry for the late report but I'm in recovery mode..

On board were: Zomees, fishingminds, Moon, Phieshmiester?, Tunawrestler and friends.. 13 total

CAN U SAY RALPH?

Saturday fishing was awesome everywhere and flat calm seas but Sunday was a WHOLE different story.. We left LA Harbor with high hopes in killing fish.. Capt. Rick told me to fish SCI for those big Yellows but we wanted Yellowfin and maybe a possible Big Eye.. I wanted to catch the first Big Eye in US Waters.. Capt. Rick is just coming off knee surgery so he wouldn't be running this trip.. It would be my old buddy from the Redondo Special Jeff Jessip.. Before we left dock I talked to Deluna from the Blue Horizon on where to go.. He said its was full speed on the Yellowfin, big Yellows and few Dodo's in US waters.. COOL, we will meet you out there so our plan was to work together..

Now, before we even got on the boat, a few of us were partying pretty hard especially this was a birthday trip for me.. The ride down was good but when I woke up.. OH NO.. We were riding down swell so it didn't feel bad at all.. When I got out of the bunk room the seas were bigger then the boat.. Lots of wind like 25kts.. Also the water temp dropped 2 degrees.. I knew we were in trouble.. I went to talk to Capt. Jeff and asked what he thought.. He said lets just go for it.. I was thinking lets just give it a try for little bit and see what happens.. We didn't even see another boat anywhere.. I figured Deluna said screw this and turned around.. I was right about that.. About 7am we started to get pounded and most of the guys weren't feeling to good especially me.. We were looking for kelps and trolling.. We started having waves come over the stern.. Zomees and I were in the stern then all of sudden I said HOLD ON.. A huge wave hit us and Zomees and I were practically swimming.. After that I tried to get a hold of Rick on the Sat phone to ask what we should do but he didn't answer.. I told Capt. Jeff lets just work our way home so about 11am we started to do that.. By this time, I was done SEA SICK.. I haven't been sea sick in years.. It was so nasty I was little nervous especially when this was Capt. Jeff's first trip running the boat.. But he was just coming from running boats in Alaska so I had faith in him.. We worked our way in and saw a nice paddy.. We stopped on it.. Now you could imagine 25kts of wind and 8'-10' seas this is going to be fun.. I threw my jig in and I got bit.. A little yellow but it took my mind off Ralphing.. Then another guy got a Dorado and that was it.. We finally got a hold of Rick and he said get your butts home.. The whole fleet is all ready on their way back so we headed home but one problem.. It was such nasty weather we couldn't B line it home.. Jeff had to work to the beach then B line straight up.. It took us 11hrs to get home and the roughest ride I have ever had.. We heard the SCI boats took 9hrs to get home.. If we would of had a wood boat there would have been a lot of damage..

I was so sick that I couldn't even go into the galley or bunk room.. For 11hrs I slept in a chair that Mirco let me borrow.. Thanks Mirco.. During this trip it was making me think back to golf screw fishing.. My buddy Zomees got thrown out of his bunk and cracked his open.. Thank god it sorta stopped bleeding.. Monday morning he had to go get stitches, six of them..

For me a trip from hell.. I don't know where that weather came from and of course it was sunny skies.. After getting to the dock this boat was a mess.. The galley tab for this trip was $25 for the whole boat sorry Rick.. There was plenty of Corona's left over this trip.. I took over a case home..

Thanks to Capt. Jeff, 2nd Steve, Mike, #1 for getting us home safe..
