Took a long lunch this afternoon and drove by smith and moorehouse and sure enough there was a shiny new layer of ice on it. Upon further inspection it is not quite fishable yet. I could throw a 20lb rock right through the ice. Looked to be 3/4" to 1" thick. Maybe by this weekend it will have 3 or 4 inches. The road is a little iffy. The last three miles are snow packed. Plenty of sleds have been up and down, but there is a nice hard crusty layer on top. I wouldn't suggest attempting it with anything less than a four wheel drive with good tires. If we get any more snow this week, it might be real questionable as to whether you could access the lake in a pickup.
