Well, got the itch to tackle redmond and see if I could catch some pike. Left south jordan at seven o' clock or so and got down to the lake about nine thirty. Chucked streamers on the 6 wt. for about five hours without so much as one strike. Nobody around me got anything either. What has happened to this lake? I was told it wasn't very difficult to hook up with some pike in here, but after five hours of flingin' the flies and about two hours of soaking a chunk of perch below a bobber I called it quits. I was told the winter was the best time to fish this body of water. Anybody know whats up with Redmond? Anybody caught fish recently? I would consider having your party another time because fishing was nonexistent today. Good luck guys.

[cool]I don't know what is up with that lake, since I'e never fished it before, but your report settles it for me...I'm not going there this Saturday. Sorry nomoose, it just doesn't sound productive from any of the reports I've heard this winter. If I go fishing Saturday, I'm headed to Utah Lake for some eye's and White Bass.

Tube dude hit the nail on the head in all areas of redmond. Being a local and from god's country; my two cents about redmond pike. Any day can be a slow day fishing for any kind of fish. The problem with redmond the last two years is the fish are very few. Because of lack of catch and release. At last years party there were only approx. four fish caught all day with ten to twelve rods in the water. That's why I expressed for them to catch and release so there would still be some to catch. Five years ago it was a boom year and it was nothing to catch 12 to 24 inchers every ten minutes. As for me holding the title of pikeman I once held the state record out of Yuba for 3 years till some one proved that they could certify a fish with smaller length and girth but make it weigh more than mine. I used to fish redmond none stop in my early years. At one time my friend held the state record on pike out of redmond which weighed 19 pounds 2 ounces after sitting in the back of his truck for approx. 3 hours. Could have lost 2-3 pounds approx. water weight. So it is my belief that there is still some pike in redmond along with catfish and large mouth. We are in what you call a bust year. Last year I made it to no mooses's party pointed them the most likely spot to catch fish and paid the price hearing it from the locals about dragging all these people down to fish redmond lake. So as a local I invite you to fish redmond and I ask again to bring your camera take a picture and then turn them loose.
The minerals in the springs make the fish the nastiest fish you will ever eat. So have your party no moose , I'll be fishing at the big berry before there is no more time. P.S. my pike was 47 and 3/4 inches long with a 20 and an 1/8th inch girth. You do the math.

I thought that it was reading a bit different for mrs. pikeman to be at the keys. Does this mean that you guys finally rounded up a machine for your home? Its good to hear from you, i am going to go to the party regardless of if i catch a fish or not, it will just be nice to be out fishing.

sorry about your bad day down there it does happen. I still plan on going and doing the party. I see it this way. I'm out fishing on soft water with a chance to hook a pike. there are some ways that work better down there then others but like any time you go fishing thinks dont alway work the way you hope. If I had to get a fish every time I went I would just go fish at a pay to fish place. that way I would know I could get one for sure.

Well well I can see why it was a bust for you. Flies and streamers usually doesnt catch pike... because they are a bottom feeders and usually eat dead things that are on the bottom.
What you should do is buy frozen anchovies, and use a steel leader with two hooks, 2nd one being the stinger hook to help keep the anchovy on the hook... watch out! Anchovies are the best bet for hook-ups. Sorry to hear that you wasted time... however spinners and spoons do also work but not as well as the baiting them with anchovies.
I had a friend report to me that he caught 6 pike three weeks ago on such a procedure that I explained above which has been popular for use on pike.
I do think regulations needs to be put in for catch release and size restrictions so the pike can really proliferate.

well as pikeman and Td has said redmond can be one of them lakes that can be off and on.. on any given day!! last year fishing was slow at best every time i went there.. but did pull 3 or 4 fish a day out.. i heard that the lake was very low last summer this might be why the pike are haveing a hard time the last year or two.. with the water that should be filling the lake this year there might be a good amount of fish in 2 or 3 years down the road..
anchoves under a big red and white is the best i have found there.. with a red and white deardevel and krocadiles in alot of difrent colors work good some days as well..
sorry i'm not going to be able to make the party down there i'm still out in St. louis right now and going to be here for another week or two..
