Eighteen new conservation officers have joined the ranks at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division following their recent graduation from the third Michigan Conservation Officer Recruit School.

After 22 weeks of rigorous basic law enforcement and natural resource law enforcement training at the Michigan State Police Training Facility, the 18 recruits graduated from the recruit school and were sworn in and given the Oath of Office by DNR Director Rebecca Humphries.
“Conservation officers often are the front-line of contact with the public for the DNR,” Humphries said. “They enforce our natural resources and environmental laws, and by doing so help protect our quality of life in our state.”
Following a short period of time off to spend with their families and friends, the new probationary conservation officers will head out to their 21-week field training assignments to begin the next phase of their training.
This is the third recruit school that the DNR Law Enforcement Division has conducted. The first recruit school was held at the Kettunen Center near Cadillac in 2001 and the last two have been held at the Michigan State Police Training Facility in 2003 and 2005. Although the recruit school is held at the MSP facility, the school itself is operated and overseen by DNR Law Enforcement Division personnel.
A list of the new probationary conservation officers, their hometowns and their first field assignment location is attached.
The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
