Aloha, it’s About time…
I’ll `guess your losing them to fish if your running a heavy drag, if your going 18 & fish goes 15+ the other way, that means the line is getting dragged thru the water Very quickly & just water drag can break line.

at those speeds, any fish will probably be Striking with an Open mouth, the hook set will come naturally as the fish closes mouth & turns so put Just Enough drag to hold the reel from dumping line before fish comes into picture….Almost freespool.
You’ll Still get good hook up ratio.
Good Clickers are a MUST…or you’ll lose too much line before knowing fish is there.

When I’m going somewhere Fast, I’ll put out two lines with lures I have rigged Just for go`N Fast.
They are pointed jets, single hook on the big side,
I use hoop protectors & make the crimp hoop tight,
Then, get some Electrical tape & wrap it up leader from hook in a way that you can cram the lure down & it will stay at hook end without sliding up leader as it tumbles & comes out of water….Most All lures will at those speeds & that can also be part of the problem, the hook / crimp can foul with leader & scrape it enough so when a fish puts pressure it breaks.

I have also ran Softhead Wide Range lures fast & a couple Bullet heads with a flat 90 degree face will stay in water, I think Pukula Sprocket lures might have high speed capabilities, I haven’t ran them though.

Some will put a torpido sinker at swivel to hold in water too.

I’ll play with how close to the boat I can get away with putting lures on a daily bases, trying to stay as close to boat as possible with lure without it coming out of water too much.

Where are ya running these lures & for what kind of fish..?
& What lures have ya tried..?

[cool] ALOHA Good Luck & Have FUN [Smile]

Dan
Stand Up!!!

Stand Up Fish`N Charters Kauai Hawai
[Wink]
