deer creek and provo
#1
well after all the riff raff over the provo this week on here ive decided to go check it out myself. i havent been there in 6 months so im going tomorrow. mostly fishing the middle stretch to see if my honey holes are still producing the sweets. we will spend some time on deer creek at dusk see if i can tangle with a few bass. havent been there for a bit either so time to renew my friendships with the local gill folk. ill post a report tomorrow evening let everyone know whos interested in what the conditions are like etc.

good luck to everyone wherever you go

[Image: winner.gif]ok so the report is as follows. and this is done with Sad news. we fished the middle provo all day. from the bridge above where the river dumps into deer creek. first you must all excuse me cuz i dont know all the names on the provo. picked up a few rainbows not real big and a couple of browns. played around with a monster brown in a deep hole. wasnt biting. then we realized what had happened to all the fish. they are sick!! we just talked about this and there was speculation about the disease in that area. i can say last year it was not. well this year sorry its bad. lots of fish and all over 15 in or so were affected. i think i counted 20 fish dead. and the larger fishe we saw had spots on them and were lethargic all ready . what is going on? they havent spawned yet even and they are dying. whats going to happen once they spawn or even if they do. i dont want to know other than alot are definitely dead. fished farther up stream towards midway. same results. the larger fish that were not affected we caught. the others layed on the bottom sick. we fished up by the new restoration area a few miles below jordanelle. i made a interesting observation. up there, there is stagnant slow water from the restoration. ironically the fish up there are fine no floating none dead none sick. all aggressive. perhaps im way off here but as i posted before and still believe there is a deeply rooted coincidence here of fast white water river and the disease. mainly because these browns and other browns alike dont like fast water like that all the time. i truly believe they need to slow the provo let the darn thing winter. of course thats not good for fly hatches but. ...... the fish are dying badly that river is in severe big trouble.

thats my soap box for the day,

best fish was about 19 in. caught a few found no spawners and only a few beds. water was runnign even higher must have opened the gates at jordanelle again.

happy fishing
