Green River
#1
Going to the green river on sunday april 24th. Has anyone been down there latley? If so, what will my best bet be to catch fish. I know the pmd's may be going on, but what may work if there is no hatch. I also love to fish streamers but have never caught a fish on the green with a streamer. Any help would be good.

Thanks
Bart

Try a zebra midge, or a dark nymph. Wooly Buggers can be effective but they are better fished from a boat or pontoon than from shore. Also try a double hook up. Use a red San Juan Worm and tie a small nymph behind it. Be sure to fish this set up on the very bottom of the river.

Which section are you going to fish ? A ? B ? C ?. Will you be ashore or afloat ?

My view of the Green River:

Section A - "A" for AQUARIUM - beautiful clear water and an aquarium like environment - A fantasitc float but hardly worth fishing on many if not most days(the put-in is a zoo BTW). The fish on this section have seen and been hooked by everything in the book and then some. This section has good access from the bank and well developed trails - but would be better fishing from floatation - IMO.

Section B - "B" for BETTER than "A",or, (B)asically (B)y yourself, more Bugs, Big-Browns and beautiful scenery. Bothersome shuttle - for the 10 or so river miles you get here, the shuttle is like a 100 mile round trip.

Section C - "C" for Carp, Cloudy water and in Comparison - you'll be alone much of the time and/or COMPLETELY without COMPANY or COMPETITION. There are also some big Browns(there maybe rainbows, but I've never caught one) in this section as well. If you go far enough down the river, there are some great Cat fish(IIRC, a while back, there was no bag limit) to be had as well.

If you are in the vicinity, try Jones Hole for a nice fishing experience(just a short hike up from the confluence of the creek and the Green River) - if you can - that is.

Good luck and enjoy !
