Rookie Angler Needs Help Impressing His Kids
#1
Quote:She doesn't have to clean them as long as she'll let me keep catchin' them.

I've been taking my kids to Vivian Park the last three weeks and catching Rainbows on Velveeta. We usually catch about ten and then call it a day (of course, we only keep 4).

My kids are getting bored and we're ready for a new challenge. I've gone to Utah Lake before and never had any luck. Tried fishing for Walleye with minnows a month ago and everyone around me caught something but me. I ran over and took the hook out of a big walleye just to say I'd seen one up close.

Needless to say, I don't have a clue about how to fish Utah Lake. Can anyone tell me a place where I can take my kids and show them some fish bigger than my hand? Since I don't know the area well, I'll need pretty clear instructions.

1. Where exactly do I go and how do I get there?
2. What bait do I use? If it comes on a hook in a store, please tell me the name of the bait.
3. I've heard it's easy to catch white bass off the piers by the two dikes. Is that true? If so, how?
4. I don't have a boat.

The biggest fish I've ever caught was a cutthroat on Yellowstone Lake when I was 15. Help!

Kitties, or channel cats as some call em, can be had by simply drift fishing cut bait (carp or perch), minnow, crawler, shrimp, etc... below a bobber in water depth from 18" and deeper. Adjust your bait so it drifts just off the bottom. I like fishing for kitties in later afternoon or night. I've heard some good word coming from both the Lindon and American Fork boat harbors kitties wise. Also note the "bubble up" is merely 200 or 300 yards south of the south dike of the lindon harbor.

White Bass.. Try spinners and curly tailed grubs. Special note, beware Utah Lake is known as snag city. Whities will also take carp meat.

Best of luck..

Getting to lincoln is very easy.If you need directions just shoot me a pm if someone hasnt given them to you yet.If its just fish you want to catch theres always mudcats .You can catch them with just worms on the bottom. They are a little fatter than those bows at vivian park. Also the bobber method for channels works great .Walleyes will take minnows and lately i have seen them take worms and anchovies too!Hope this helps i will be at lincoln wednesday about 4pm too.
