Walleye No. 2 Falls to a Minnow
#1
Nothing too spectacular to report here other than I did manage to catch my second walleye of the year this evening (Friday) in between the dikes at Lincoln Beach at around 6:30.

Tried pitching a Texas-rigged craw-colored tube and a white spinnerbait for a possible largie to no avail, so I switched to bait fishing with minnows.

It took about three hours (good thing I had reading material), but I did manage one miniature channel cat, which I released, and one 22" walleye, whose fillets are now chillin' in my fridge. Had three or four other bites, but couldn't seal the deal on them.

Walleye or not, it was a beautifully calm and sunny evening, until the W picked up around 8, which I took as a sign to skedaddle.

Good luck to all of you fishing tomorrow. I've got muchas yard work to do.

I should mention that I fished next to Ocean for awhile, but it was earlier in the afternoon at around 4 p.m. The bite didn't start for me at least until after 6 or so.

Sorry you missed the action, Ceasar.

TD your right about right time and spots..
for throwing the bait like minnows.. i like the wether to be bad.. just like it was the other day rained all day long wind blowing all day and walleye bitting all day long..
now with the wether the way it is to day i would wait tell late in the evening and go tell 1:00 or 2:00 at night to throw the bait.. catch alot of catfish that way to..
but Mama is not going to let me do that today.. so i'm going to load the boat up and head to LB and give bird island a try some time this afternoon..

Thanks for the congrats, TD. I'm starting to get more excited about this walleye thing.

Hopefully, I can figure out how to catch them throughout the summer.

Still hoping for an outing like Fuzzyfisher's where multiple 'eyes are caught.

Maybe someday.........[Smile]

Dude way to go! I was hoping the fishing would pickup .I thought that brown stuff that came in was going to go in the channel and kill the fishing like it did at the end of the dike. The more you fish for walleyes the better you will get at it.We are gonna have to do a night fishing trip there after i get from miami.

Sounds great. I just read your report, and it's good to hear your daughter was able to catch one of her own.

I think an after-dark trip with the kids in the near future sounds like a great time.

Would have been great if you could have even got a glimpse of that monster that stripped off a lot of your line.

Oh well, next time perhaps.
