Big-Money Championship Comes To United States
#1
WADDINGTON, NY— The World Carp Championship (WCC) is making its United States debut in St. Lawrence County, New York, June 5-10. A $1 million prize will be awarded to the team of anglers who breaks the New York state single carp record, which is currently 50 pounds, 4 ounces. The WCC will also award cash payouts and merchandise throughout the competition, such as a pair of brand new 2005 Chevrolet Colorado trucks and $50,000 to the first place team.

Participants will fish for 115 hours straight, sleeping when they can. More than 120 teams from Europe, Africa, Asia and North America have registered.

"The St. Lawrence River is a globally acclaimed fishery," says Sean Manning of the American Carp Society. "We hope this event is the catalyst that will help carp fishing gain the respect in the United States that it has enjoyed in the rest of the world."

The event will be held on a 35-mile stretch of the St. Lawrence River, from Ogdensburg to Massena along the U.S./Canadian border.
