[black]I’m thinking of getting a new reel and need some suggestions. Right now I’m using an “el cheapo” reel with a self-centering bail. I don’t like the self-centering bail because of the over travel when setting the hook.
My requirements are a light/medium spinning reel that can handle 6-10 lb test line with a descent anti-reverse. I have been thinking of two different spinning reels that should fit the bill of what I’m looking for in a reel and need some opinions.
First is either the Abu-Garcia Cardinal 102 or 103.
The other is the Rapala RAP SX6i.
Are either of these good? Or, is there something better? Also I don’t want to spend more that $60 on the reel. Any input would be appreciated. TIA.

[green]Last year, I bought a couple Pflueger President for $55 each. The President has 10 ballbearings, instant anti-reverse, and is a 5.2:1 gear ratio. The 6735 model sounds like what you are looking for. I have a 6730 ( I prefer a smaller reel).

It may be a little cheaper that what you are looking for but I'm using a Mitchell 300x right now and really like it. It has 5 bearings, instant anti-reverse, and the drag is very smooth. It's only $35 or so. Or you can go with the Mitchell 300x Gold series which has 10 bearings. Good luck, I always have a hard time picking up new tackle too.

If it's a spinning reel you want, I'm with spades! I grew up fishing mitchell 300 reels, I have one that is over 30 years old that still gets used regularly. I also have one I purchased this spring. It is every bit as good as its elder. I use it to troll 10 lb line and pop gear. You might also check out the Okuma Metaloid at Sportsmans. It's rated one of the best values out there, and is very modestly priced
Good Luck!

spvdgcar, a couple years ago I picked up a Quanyum Catalyst pti. The most exspensive reel I have ever paid for. I was replacing my old mitchell 300. I do not reget it one bit! If you can afford one (they are now 40 bucks more than when I bought it) buy it. You will not regt it one bit. They are one sweet reliable reel. Of course you'll have to put up with BLM (grins) as he pokes ya a bit. Hot sauce, bearins, titainium oh my!
