3/4 Day Premier Trip 6/15
#1
Hey there guys,

Fished the 3/4 day boat Premier today. Jimmy ran the boat and Mikie decked. Targeted the barracuda at Horseshoe Kelp. Wide open catching of total logs..... many 8-9lbs, some pushing 11-12lbs. I'm talkin' huge.

Loaded up on some nice sardines on the way out. We first targeted barracuda then hit the calico/sand bass spots later in the day.

Once out on the shoe, we didn't have to wait too long or later..... move too far to get back on fish if things dried up. As was in our case, it sure helps if the deck can continue to toss bait to keep the fishys in as tight as possible. Those big guys sure seemed picky (boat still decked around 150) and I wasn't having any luck on the surface iron. Guys around me were getting their fish from around the first 3 fathoms and deeper!

Flylined and dropper looped baits (1-2oz torpedos) took the majority of fish although swimbaits did do fairly good. Guys that were especially good with iron were most consistant and got most of the bigger fish. I caught a couple with my flurocarbon/circle hook deadly duo. I used size 1 circle hooks for the challenge. And once you get the hang of it .....

A couple of hours and the cuda bite did it's usual disappearing act and that was it on them for us. With 40 or so anglers, the bulging fish sacks were an awesome sight.

Moved on to some great bass spots. In the main, we targeted calicos but the sand bass are starting to wake up so the bass count was pretty much even. BUT .... there were a couple of 5lb and 6lb sand bass in a generally nice grade of fish.

Birds were seen diving so the schools were fairly easy to locate. Sea lions were not too much of an annoyance but they were there. I think there was even a cute harbor seal hanging around for a while.

Got back to Pierpoint landing around 4:30 which is great as the fish sacks, having gotten continual wet-downs throughout the day and fish cleaned early so filets, were in great shape. Everybody had plenty of filets to take home.

Oh ya ...... got my smelt special sandwich ..... which took half the day to eat. Thanks Bill

Great weather, boat, crew, and fishing buddies.

You guys seem to have so much fun on that boat. It is nice to see the sandies openening up their eyes and coming out to play with the big boys and their toys.

I guess it's time for me to pay a visit to the south side of town on Monday. I haven't caught a nice Barry since October at the Channel Islands.[cool]
