Photos of my tube modifications
#1
Hey TD,

Thanks for the help with the photos. I wasn't sure where to put them - LOL - Don't go there - please. If you want to move them to the right thread - please feel free to do so. Anyway, Here are the break-out exploded view of the attachments. I will fill in the details as far as the sizes go as soo as I can see that the upload works. Hopefully, I did this right and it will allow me to edit after I have loaded the pics.

[cool][#0000ff]Well, we ganged up on 'em and got 'em on the board anyhooters. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I am sure there will be some interest in your descriptions and evaluations of the different innovations you have come up with.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]As I told you in the email, your camera takes good pics, and I am sure you will make good use of it. Feel free to have me help where I can, and maybe someday we can get together and check out what kind of photo editing program(s) you have available on your system. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Totally confusing to get started, but fun and rewarding once you get the hang of it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I will probably let the photos remain in this post for the time being. I will scoop some of them and rename them for inclusion in some of the different pictorials when I do some more editing.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Thanks for sharing.[/#0000ff]

Wow, very nice set-up, very impressive. I especially like the forward rod holder that has the fly rod in it. (There goes my second drink holder.) How much extra weight have the modifications added, and has it been an issue?

[cool][#0000ff]Having extra weight on his craft is not a problem for Fishhound. He is a skinny little twerp who has to stand twice in the same place to cast a shadow. As long as the craft stays afloat, he will probably keep "decorating" it with new goodies.[/#0000ff]

Hey there TubeDude,

Glad you mentioned that. With that much gear....it was either sinking or capsizing....... I couldn't figure out which would occur first! ha ha

No need to jetison the second drink holder yet - I just happen to have created a "Y" connection to that very flyrod holder - So I could have a drink holder on that side too - both my left and right sides get thirsty.

As far as the weight issues are concerned, the modifications have not added that much to the total. I can easily carry everything in one trip if I need to, I designed it to be very portable because the places I want to fish with it are sometimes a hike from my vehicle.

My fishcat can float me and just about anything I can fit on it for a "regular" fishing trip. I did weigh it for one trip and the total(tube, modifications and fishing gear) at that time was around 25 lbs - but, I have changed a few things since and that particular trip was not really representative of my "regular" fishing habits.

I have not weighed the modifications separately as of yet, However, I will do that and post the total weights of the components of my system as soon as I can.

All the plumbing parts came from a remodel job I did on the house I used to live in. So I kind of used already existing materials that were laying around - so too late to invest, that profit would now be stock-holder overhead.

[blush] "Skinny little twerp" - LOL ! I'll just have you know, I am a good 150 lbs(fully clothed in waders, fishing vest, spey rod in hand, both pockets full of change and my fishing license - I am also about the same weight in all of my ski gear on the hill.

P.S. Hopefully the new Bar-B-Que grill I mounted on my tube won't interfer with the overall portability getting to the water and/or manueverabilty while I'm there. I just need to figure a better way to carry extra briquettes. Any ideas ?

[cool][#0000ff]Sorry if I offended. Delete "skinny twerp". Insert "small, compared to TubeDude". Is that more politically correct for you? Heck, almost everybody is small compared to me.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]About those modifications. I would suggest installing some solar collecting cells on that second deck you are adding. That way you can get rid of the wood burning microwave oven and the hand cranked entertainment system. Might free up your casting arm a bit. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]And, that fully stocked "wet bar" could easily be set up on a pontoon outrigger. You're on your own with the bar stools. Maybe you could make it one of those classy "swim up" bars like they have in the fancy resorts.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]More briquets for the barbie? Simple, Dude. Convert to a gas grill and then eat lots of burritos the night before a trip (natural gas...get it?)[/#0000ff]

I just don't think there is room on the flying bridge(second story) for solar panels - that's where the casting deck and side-planner mast are. However, although I really love my mesquite briquettes, for this application, I think your gas grill idea might logistically be more feasible - and, if I used carp meat in the burritos ... well, I think you already know what the potential could be.

OK, I just weighed my set up - with a digital fishing scale and verified(more or less) by my analog scale.

Tube (FC4) inflated = 14 lbs.
Fins = 4 lbs 10 oz.
Current itteration of modifications = 9 lbs 4 oz.
Total weight = 27 lbs 14 oz.

Disclaimer - Tackle not included - it changes too much - some times dramatically(like when I bring my fish finder - Bottom Line Fishing Buddy model 2255 at 4 lbs 10 oz. including batteries and mounted holder). But, a ball park figure would be about 8 to 12 lbs of fishing gear. Note: the longer the hike to launch, the less gear I bring.
