Scents for plastic / hard baits ...
#1
What do you use? Do you use any at all? I would have to say that I use "Smelly Jelly" in the two flavors crawfish / crawfish anise. I am seriously thinking about using nightcrawler. What about you guys?

Hi Clif,

I never used scent until a few years ago. A friend of mine got me using scent and I think it does work. At the present time I am using "Baitmate Live," got it at Wally World. I have been fishing without using it and be catching fish, then the fish quit biting and I put in on and start catching fish again. I am not familiar with Smelly Jelly...is it in a jar and you dip your bait in it? Baitmate has a pump sprayer, and it says its for all game fish.

I use the smelly jelly anchovie from time to time, but I haven't found a distinct difference in catches. The gal at hooked told me it worked wonders.... once again stuped by a cute girl! When will I learn.

I just got some YUM crawdad spray on. I havent noticed a marked improvemnt over the SJ. I am of the opinion that the spray on does not last as long as the pasty smelly jelly.

Smelly Jelly crawfish, anchovie, and Kick-n bass crawfish all work well! Oh and the Kick-n bass catfish scent works real good for the Kitties! No need to try anything else!

You are probably right Jason. I know this Baitmate leaves what looks like an oil slick in the water.

My wife complains all the time about the smell of smelly jelly. I think its one of the greatest smells of all time. Like a christmas tree at christmas. Its the smell of going fishing.

I used to use the Berkley scents, then the smelly jellies and others as well. It wasn't long before the ProCure brand was introduced to me and I haven't gone back to anything else since then.

The ProCure comes in a squeeze bottle that allows you to scent natural and artificial baits alike. The applicator has an injector on it just like a worm blower and makes it easier to get into even handpoured plastics.

The scent hangs around alot longer than the smelly jelly and is environmentally safe as well as friendly.

It does cost a little bit more than the others but a little bit does go a long way and less is wasted through thier specific method of application.

It is also available in many of your favorite scents ranging from shrimp, mackerel, anchovy, sardine, crawfish, shad and even a couple of different combo scents. The combo scent for bass has crawfish oil, shad oil, krill oil, nightcrawler and other scents as well.

There is a Calico scent as well. It has sardine, anchovy, squid, mackerel and other stuff too. It is especially good for Catfish or even your ocean varieties of fish.[cool]
