Uintas Grandaddy Lakes?
#1
A few questions here.
First, does anyone know or heard if the Grandaddy basin is open or not? I'd like to hike in and stay for a couple of nights this weekend or the next.
Second, I have my fly rod and would like to know what flys to take with me. I would possibly be taking my spinning rod also and would like some suggestions for some artificial lures.
Third, can anyone make a suggestion on the best lakes to hit up there. I would just make base camp and make hikes to the other lakes.
I'd like to get into the mountains and do some good trout fishing, but have never fished the Uintas before. I've been hitting all the resevoirs close by and after the combat fishing at Silver Flat, Tibble Fork, Jordanelle, and Deer Creek this weekend I'm looking to get away a little bit. Thanks for any advice.

I'm not familiar with the Granddaddy lake area, but I was up above Trial lake (about 10,300 feet) 2 Saturdays ago, and there was a LOT of snow still left. It is melting fast, and I'm sure with the nice summer conditions we've been enjoying, the access should improve dramatically. If it were me, I'd go up any time. You can stop by, or call James at Hooked Fishing Tackle in Kaysville, and he can give you good advice on fly selection. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for the advice. I've never actually fly fished, I just bought a rod, reel and line. Can anyone advise me on a good fly shop that can give me some pointers or take the time to show me a few things. I live in West Jordan so anything in the SLC Valley would be nice.
