Matt Warner, Red Fleet, and Steinaker(report)7/2-7/4
#1
Myself and Tincanfsh crew were in the basin to visit the inlaw's for the 4th of July weekend.

We fished Matt Warner on Saturday evening from shore. We got up there to the welcome of Rain, Thunder and lightning. We started by the dam but was only there for 15 minute before wew deciced to try the so called honey hole. The fishing was slow for MW. after about a hour I couldn't take bait fishing any longer. I put on my waders and waded out to my nipple's in the water and started to though a Mepps and caught 4 small rainbows and a cuttbow in about 30 minutes. My son and the dog's had a great time fishing and playing in the water.

Sunday afternoon in between the storm's I took Mrs Tincanfsh and Tincanfsh 2 out for their first Kayak trip. We Fished Red Fleet for about 2 hours. My wife is a brave soul. She went out in the yaks with out knowing how to swim. At first she wasnt sure about the yaks but in about 10 minutes she was crusing around. TCF 2 caught 4 rainbows with a little help from dad with a shad rap and lost 3 time's that many. The rainbows were tiny. We paddle up the Canyon past the boat ramp for a awhile before the wind picked up. What a beautiful palce. The one cave that you could put you boat in is a lot smaller now. I think that the kayak trip turned out well.

I fished Steinaker on Monday morning from 6am to 12pm. I fished from the kayak. I caught 2 bass on Buzzers. One was small and the other went 14". I fished some flooded brush near the dam and caught 2 Bluegills and 6 Green Sunfish on a jig and crawler combow. When I started to paddle I just couldn't keep those little rainbow's off of the line. I ended up with 21 small rainbows. The wind came up around 11am. 31 fish in a few hours not too bad of a trip.

At all three places the water was really high. I fished and paddle through the flooded trees at Steinaker.when I needed to get out of the sun. How cool is that. Life is good.

[red][size 3]Sounds like a great time with the Mrs. and the guppy. How do you do it? My wife would rather make an appointment with the dentist than go fishing - go and figure. I enjoyed your report especially since Matt Warner, Red Fleet, and Steinaker are lakes on my fishing map that don't have a pin in them yet (haven't fished them.) My problem is that when I get over in that neighborhood I have a hard time getting past the Gorge! [laugh][/size][/red]

My wife just likes to be outdoors so It didn't much effort on my part to get her fishing and Kayaking. I'm going to spend a week Kayak fishing the Gorge and the Green in August so I thought I'll hit my favorites this trip.

Hey TCF,

Sounds like a fun one. Is the Mrs. hooked on yaks yet ? I'll be headed that way as soon as the weather cools down some in the fall(if we have fall this year). Did the dogs sit in the front or the back of your yak ?

Mrs T is hooked on Kayaking. Shes making kayaking trip plan's for just the two of us. Maybe a camping trip out of the yaks for the Gorge. No dog's in the yaks yet. Those two are a bit high strung so it might take awhile

You must have caught Matt Warner during a freak slow down before the storm. I've only received two other reports from there in the last week, but they both told me that they caught their limit of nice 17"-26" fish within a few hours. The GF's brother said the 26" Rainbow weighed in at 5.2lbs. He also mentioned that the fish are fighting better than they were a couple of weeks ago.

I didn't ask him, but I am sure he was using a spinner. Usually a Mepps or Panther Martin in plain Brass or Silver depending on the weather. Once in a great while I've seen him tie on a jointed Rapala in Perch or Brown Trout colors.

The other report was from a whole family that went up last Thur. if I remember teh right day. He said that the entire group limited on BBQ size (17"-20") Rainbows.

My measuring for most trout.
Release size - under 12"
Pan size - 12"-16"
BBQ size - 17"-22"
Smoker size - ANYTHING THAT WILL FIT IN THE BOX!!![cool]
Any of these are subject to change depending on catching success, lack there of, how hungry I am, or by selective harvest for the water I'm on.
