Went up last night for a couple of hours .. pigstkr, realtor dave & I stuck some fish in the 2lb range. Saw bassrods up in the arm and we talked for a little while about fishing success. Hit the arm mostly and stuck fish on senkos / dropshot / Luhr Jensen Speed Trap Crankbaits
Just as the fishing was getting good ... the sun was heading down ... I was throwing a speed trap and hooked in to a nice 2lb smallie. I went to grab the fish and in went the hook. We went to Heber IHC Hospital, The doc used a set of needle nose and a big needle to push the remaining out. I slept pretty good last night with my painkillers.
Lesson Learned: RESPECT THE HOOK.

That's not the kind of sucker you want to hook into! I have yet to drive one deep (knock on wood), but I've pulled hooks out of peoples fingers before. A little lidocaine and some nice pliers and you are good to go.

I actually had to cut a hook out of my wife's forearm last summer. It wasn't deep, but the barb just wouldn't let go.
I've been lucky for a long time, but i'm probably due.

Thats why you weren't at the meeting. I did the same thing a couple days before 9/11. The bills totaled over $300. Luckily for me, I only had to pay $50 for an ER visit.
I was at Jordanelle til 5:30. Can you say Whacked them! My best 5 were about 16lbs. They would only hit flukes and lipless for me.

I stuck a roostertail in the back of my neck once. Wade fishing and I casted into a bush, the hole was producing so well I didn't want to wade thru it and scare the fish, so one good had pull and out it came at 100mph. I had just enough time to turn my head to keep from taking it in the face. The fishing was so good, I clipped off the roostertail and tied on a new one and finished the evening out strong with a new piece of jewlery. Hit the ER that night after I got home.

WHAT you went to the doc for that ????? whats up with that.
I've had 3 hooks in my fingers and one of them I went to the doc because it was in my finger tip and the point was up aginst my nail and I couldn't push it thru. just bear down and twist them up thru, no problem. sure, it will hurt for a few, but you can keep fishing. it's just like a big needle.
Tomegun,,, 300 bucks !!!!! wow,, no thanks, I have a good pair of needle nose. later chuck

Ouch! Looks familiar. The funniest hooking mishap I ever saw was my dad driving home with a jitterbug hanging from the lobe of his ear. An errant backcast by one of us kids sent him to the emergency room. Two years ago, a wiper drove a treble into the tip of my middle finger. It was so deep, none of the self removal techiques would work. Trouble was, it was Sat. evening and the only medical facility open was the emergency room. A hook in the finger is way down the triage list on a Sat. night. I sat there for three hours before I saw a doctor. Once the novocaine shot took effect it was a simple procedure to push the point past the barb, clip it off and back the hook out. The doc, who was a fisherman, said it was one of the worst self-hook jobs he had seen. Adding insult to injury, the bill came to over $900. My insurance company hounded me for months asking for a clear explanation of what happend. I guess they didn't know the power of a pissed-off wiper.

[#505000]YOUCH!!!!!!!! [crazy] I could have saved you some $$$ though. With the tasers we use at work they shoot what is more or less a 1/4 long barbed straightend fish hook into the suspect (plus 50,000 volts). A quick yank o' the pliers and they come right out. We only get the suspects medical attention if it hits a sensitive area, like the face, neck, groin, breasts, eyes, ect...[/#505000]

The next time you see me remind me to show you how to remove hooks from your body the easy way, it is hard to explain on here any way it would be for me.
After we saw you my body got a smalle 6.2 lb back up the lake on that bald point.

I am sure when BLM gets home from the Gorge he can fill in my little accident at the Gorge this past weekend. We were boating over from Swim Beach to Antelope flats, when I knelt down to pick up some scissors. IN the act of kneeling, I put a treble from a T-50 flat fish right through the top part of my ear, barb and all. Thanks to BLM, he cut the hook while i was hooked up on a T-50 on steel line and pulled it the rest of the way through. Of course no simpathy was sent my way, instead BLM and my wife spent all day making fun of me!!!

WOW, thats an easy fix, I once got a treble hook stuck in my cheek hauling a fish up, thru the hook and out it came str8 for me, tried to duck, not fast enough. I had my Dad push it all the way thru my cheek, cut off the barb and continued fishing. And man that pain killer shot in the finger hurts more than just ripping it out anyway, huh? LOL
I was also at Jordanelle last night and got hooked into a great run. Used 4 inch white and also chartuese, also did great with smallie beavers in watermelon. GOOD FISHING. evening bite started about 7 pm or so.

OUCH! Been there, done that...but never been to the ER for a hook and hope I never have to for that matter. My worst experience with a deep hook happened while trying to remove it from my forearm and then trying to catch my little brother who didn't like the bloody sight and started to faint on me. The hook was removed and my little brother was saved from a nasty run in with the pavement...call me superman!

[red][size 3]HA!!!! Couldn't leave this one alone. The only thing more exciting than catching an Wiper is having an Wiper catch you... and share the same treble hook until it gives up... yikes. The trouble with those trebles is there isn't enough shank left after you cut it to push it through. I had to get a little help from my Lidocaine friends as well, after I was done fishing of course. I know how you feel. Last fall I got a large treble in my thumb when trying to unhook an eight pound mack. It took 5 shots of 1800 tequila to push the hook through and cut it off. [crazy] Definitly painfull. From then on I always put a leather glove on my left hand before attempting to handle any fish still hooked.
