Hey guys, I recenty moved to Springville. I was driving up Canyon Rd., and came into the canyon. At the mouth of the canyon, there was a small reservoir behind a dam. There were about 6 people fishing in it.
What is the reservoirs name? Are there any fish in it, and are they just stocked trout?
Thanks!
Nate

[#505000]Ahh a question right up my alley...... They call it the diversion dam. They fill it every spring with run off then drain it through the summer. It gets stocked with rainbow trout by the DWR, but there are also browns and cuts that reproduce naturally in Hobble Creek without DWR's help. So you should be able to catch any of the three species.[/#505000]

Thanks man!
So that is Hobble Creek. Have you ever fished the creek below and above the diversion dam? Any luck?
Do you ever fish there at the diversion dam reservoir yourself, or do you choose other more desirable locations?

Hey nate you'll find better fishing farther up the canyon fishing the stream itself with worms or small hoppers. You can use flies too with good success. You have to sneak up the stream carefully because they receive heavy pressure sometimes and are skittish. You can catch fish there all year round though. I've done pretty good up there wading the stream even in February.
The Hobble Creek Catch Basin, as the DWR calls it, is mostly full of the planter rainbows. You'll get mostly browns if you go farther up, although they do stock rainbows in the deeper pools higher in the canyon by the campgrounds as well. It's a fun little river to fish.

[#505000]I tried to fish the creek for the first time this year (My office is 100 yards from the creek and I've been here for 7 years). Unfortunately I tried during the high runoff and had a tough time with the swift water. I keep meaning to get up there and fish it again now the run off is over. I did fish at the catch basin behind the diversion dam that same day prior to planting and I did catch a few small rainbows. [/#505000]

[#505000]Below the dam I've seen and talked to a lot of people who seem to do really well catching browns. Fishluvr told me he saw a BIG brown caught just behind our building a few months back. [/#505000]

[#505000]My problem is I can usually only muster 1 fishing trip a week so I generally find myself chasing catfish at Utah Lake. I have some vacation time I'm going to burn the end of this month and I think I may try to sneak over and dunk some worms in a few spots on Hobble Creek I've had my eye on.[/#505000]

I grew up fishing Hobble Creek ever since I was 4. I have fished all the way up and down that bad boy.
Up the canyon way I always use a small black rooster tail with silver spoon and I knock the heck out of'em.
There are spots all the way up and down the river where grand daddy borwns leark. I have caught some really nice fish out of Hobble creek.
3 things to use
1- Black Rooster tail with silver spoon
2- Night Crawler
3- Green grass hoppers (when in season)
the grass hoppers make great testers too... Catch one toss it in the river and watch for a fish to come up... it's really cool, especially for the kids to watch.
BTW Gary, you knew I had to chime in on this one [sly]
