well some times you have to go through hell to get to heaven.. and heaven was just a 6 houre drive to lake powell..
well we got to bullfrog and headed down the lake about 3 miles and set up camp.. then going from a hot tip from one of my buddys that was there the week before we set out for lake canyon.. first night we cought the boils and smacked them hard.. we got about 10 each the first night..
thinking that the boils would be back in the morning we went back to camp..
next morning we went back to lake canyon and found them feeding again on the boil.. but very spooky and would go down fast if you tryed to get to close.. electric motor works verry good for moveing closer after shouting down the big motor..
well the boils did not go off like the night before so we started fishing with anchoveis in the area we were seeing the boiles.. and the stripers just went off on them choveis.. we got at lest 20 to 30 stripes that morning and went through 4 bags of choveis as well..
well the stripers slowed down in the afternoon so we would go SM bass fishing over by camp or in one of the back canyons.. man then smalley sure are fun to catch.. well the rest of the trip go's about the same for the 5 day's i was there strippers in the morning smallmoulth in the afternoon then stripers at night.. we found no need to fish any where other than lake canyon the whole trip..
biggest striper was 28" and about 8 lbs.. biggest smally was around 20" and about 3 1/3 lbs..

you are a funny man..lol
i dont know if you can cook a egg in a boil there or not.. but you could cook one on any rock around there in about 2 min's any time after 9:00 am..
the biols were getting stronger as the trip went on so in about 2 weeks i think they might start getting out in the main channel and realy start going off.. the main channel is still a little murky right now once it clears up the stripers will be able to see the shad better..

[black]Striper topwater... Man, it doesn't get any better than that![/black]

[black]Another technique to try after the boils go down is speed jigging. Use 1-2 oz jigs so they go down fast ( I like dressed hook 1 oz silver Kastmasters). Drop your jig 70-80 ft, jig it 2 or 3 times at that depth then crank it up as fast as you can. Any fish in the area can't resist a free meal of a fleeing shad even when they are gorged. This can be as effective as bait. [/black]

[black]How hot was it, Fuzzy? 120 dgrees in the shade? I just don't has the desire to suffer in that hot, dry heat. Sounds like you had a killer trip![/black]

well if you want to get to boil heaven you must go through hell to get there!!
the heat is bad!! but if you have a top for your boat and stay in the shade as much as you can.. be very lucky to get a camp spot that has shade up to 10:30 in the morning and shade again 6:00 pm.. it well help with the heat..
the one biggest thing to do to beat the heat is to stay wet!!
you get hot jump in..
the water is 82.. and the air temp was 110 to 105 the whole time we were there in the day time.. droped into the 90's at night..
so with the water being alot cooler than the air a dip in the lake every hour or so works great..
we wanted to do the night fishing thing this year last year we did very good at night.. but i left my light home %$#@ but did not matter we could not aford to buy more anchoveis than we allredy were.. going through 6 bags a day on ave. and a 14 mile round trip to halls crossing to get more every day.. cost's some $$$
i was fast jigging when the boil would go down but on some days the boil did not show so we would stay in the area we last seen them and chum them up.. 9 times out of 10 we got into them..
i was useing a 6" anchovie swimbait with a 1 oz head..cast it as far as i could and let it go down about 30 to 40 feet then reel as fast as i could they would hit it around the 20 foot area and man they would just about rip the pole right out of your hands when they hit..
thats what stripers are all about hard hitting fast moveing MAC trucks that will test any one skill and gear to the limit.. you got to love it man!!

yes we did keep every striper we cought.. i brought i whole cooler full home and my buddys are still there filling up more coolers.. i've allredy eaten all of my fish tho.. i had a big family get together 2 days ago.. and them stripers on the bbq went over very good..
we keep the fish cool in a cooler with dry ice in it.. you can get dry ice at the store at hall's crossing.. about a 1lbs of dry ice a day and you fish will stay realy good for as long as a week or so.. keeping the cooler in the shade hepls alot as well..
you just have to make sure that you fillet the fish soon after catching them get the skin off and baged up before they get hot and soft..
