Willard got another dose of wipers and bait
#1
They stocked nearly 170,000 more wipers into willard bay. All little fingerlings under an inch.

Kitties and wipers will be feeding well for a bit.

And walleye, bass and perhaps crappie will eat their share also. With the raised water levels this year; hopefully, more of them will survive by hiding in the cover that is finally available to them.

Sounds like it could be time to downsize some of the offerings a bit. But then again, those won't be the only size forage fish available to the predators. And, the fry will naturally attempt to hold in cover at first before forming cohesive schools, so that may or may not affect the open water cruisers for a while - but, it could definately have an effect on the "close in" predatory fish's dietary preferences.

CBR - did it happen to say where the fry were stocked ? Could be tuff fishing in that spot for a while with the natural food availability - time to match the hatch !

I think they will pretty much smack any size about now. They stocked from the South West part of the lake from what I can tell with the codes they use.

That would be to bad. Not much cover there for fry to hide in.

I read some where that the DWR expected a 1% survival rate of those 170,00 fry. Even at that rate it is cheaper than stocking less of the bigger wipers because of the cost of raising them. I am surprised they did not stock them in an area with more cover, like the North West corner but maybe the rocks along the dikes will work just as well.

I hope it is better than 1%=1,700 survive that only equals 283 limits of fish. 1 days worth of fishing.
