Eagle Valley β Spring Valley State Park β Report

We had already made plans to go to our old haunts up near Ursine before we knew about the big fishing derby for that Saturday. The Eagle Valley Resort (Bonnie & Alβs) was putting on a tagged fish derby with one fish worth $50K. They sold over 400 entries. The picture at the dock Saturday at dawn reminded me of the scene from Jaws when all the out of town fishermen were taking off to go hunt the shark. There was so much 2 cycle exhaust fumes that I had to crack a beer to clear my throat.
The Bristol Cities & I put out in the canoe, trolling a zigzag course to avoid the other boaters. I kept one hand on the flare gun incase we had a mishap. There were so many boats that the lake rose up about a foot & was going over the spillway.
Not many were catching any fish at all. We landed 7 small ones trolling to the other end of the lake on gold mepps (with worm). Sue out-fished me again with her deft meat slinging/drifting technique she perfected in the Midwest on light-hitting papermouths (crappies). Jeff & I fished the stream below & landed some small Browns , Rainbows & one Shiner. I hooked one rainbow & one Chub on the fly in the lake. Otherwise it was gold & black spinners, flatfish, crayfish look-alikes & live bait.
We had a great time, 48 deg. nights, nice days. When things got to serious around the campfire we would go back to how Debbie fell off the dock & did the backstroke back to shore. Her husband saved here life by telling her to stand up when she was in about 3β of water. You are a good sport Deb. Well there ya go!
