E-lake report from the weekend
#1
Took the wife and kids up to E-lake this weekend for a little Camping and Fishing. It was a crazy week and we did not start loading the camper untill Friday at 4 pm. Luckly it wasn't to bad and we made it to E-lake on Friday night right before dark. We camped just south of where the boat ramp is on a good level area right next to the lake. Got the camper setup and grabbed the minnow trap loaded it up and through it out. It was dark at this point and when the trap hit the water i noticed a wierd splash and did not think much about it at the time. Woke the next morning and went to check the trap and low and behold only half of the trap came back in [mad]. I was not a happy camper. Could not see the other half but tried to snag it with no luck, so I grabbed the waders and tube and went on a mission. After about 10 minutes I spotted the other half and snaged it, what a relief. Got the trap back out, this time with the clip on both halfs. Did not bring any extra minnow thinking I would have all night to load up the trap so we had to start out with the spinners and powerbait with no luck. Luckly we found a good spot for the trap and in 20 mintues had a good haul, so let the fishing begin.

We fished both on the top and the bottom and did much better on the bottom. The kids had a hard time at first hooking up and once the stopped pay so much attention to the poles and let the fish take the minnow for a little bit we had more hook up. Here is a picture of a few fish we caught that 1st morning.

This is Lexie with a nice Cut.

From here the fishing was off and on between the storms that rolled through all day long and then it picked up again that night.

Here is our catch at about midday with releasing what we could.

Then here is Hunter right before he and Matt started to clean the catch of the day.

Those storms were amazing. When it was just raining we would try and fish through them but the wind made it hard. When It was blowing once I put my boys in there tubes up aways and let the wind push them back down, they had fun doing that. When it was hitting really hard with the thunder and lighting we took advantage of that and took a little cat nap.

Also, I was amazed at the size of the some of the minnow we pulled out. I have never seen shiners that big, they will be nice for the cats on Utah Lake and also for the Muzzleloader Deer Hunt I will be down by FishLake and will have to bring a supply.
