One the Muzzleloader deer hunt this year I found a very interesting while out hiking. I am use to picking up antlers have they have dropped but this is a bit different. It is the same material and color as an antler but is shaped more like a claw or tooth.
I have these pictures posted on a hunting website and I am getting some suggestions and also some funny suggestions as well. (Like: a penny and others can't mention)
Any suggestions would be helpful. I may take it to the DWR and see if a biologist can identify it.

It looks like the tip of an antler that has been broken off.

Hey John, do you think it could be a yearling buck horn? Most yearlings don't have horns but if that isn't the case then maybe a buck that is a year and a half old?

Many years ago I harvested a buck that had about that much broken off of the tip of one antler.

I am lean more towards the idea of a small button buck shed. I kind of doubt that it is a antler tip that was broke off because of how it flares out on the end and the curve that it has to it. If it was a tip it would be strait-er and would be more consistent in diameter.
I still like the thougth that maybe it is a claw from a bear or something.

I agree, if it looks and feels like antler that is probably what it is. Some buck probably just broke the tip off fighting. Broken antlers are pretty common I think the pieces are usually so small that they are rarely found.

Looks to me like a cheater off of a deer antler. I know they get broken off kind of easy when deer start fighting. Most times their the first to get broken off, since they aren't normally that thick and they stick off at odd angles. At least that's my two cents.

It's a piece of antler. Tip or cheater point.

Hey everyone thanks for the ideas. I am still torn on what it really is. I doubt it is a cheater because cheaters are usually not smooth. It may be a broken tip but the curve and end makes me question it.
So it is still a mystery to me, but I guess if I really need to know I should take it to a Biologist so they can tell me what they "think" it is.
O well at least it was fun finding something unusual.
