Time for bear lake???

OK guys I'm back. I'm finally done with all my hunts (except for the ducks) and now I'm ready to fish. I am however a little on this bear lake timing. I was under the impression that Oct was the best time to catch the macks but from what I have been reading it sounds like it will be later. So when is the best time to catch some??? Now I'm not too concerned with getting a huge one I just want to get the skunk off me. I have never been able to catch one of those things. Everyone I have taken with me has got one, but I'm still at zero.

One of the best times to catch a mack is right after they spawn because they haven't had anything to eat during the spawn, that should be in the next two to three weeks according to BLM.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 3]From my experience, the best time to fish Bear Lake is whenever you can. Who can say if you are going to hook up. Yes, the macks are concentrated for the spawn and yes, there is always the chance they will bite.[/size][/black][/font]

There are guys that can knock the heck out of them during the spawn a lot better then I can. It's a challenging time to catch macks that I don't pass up every year. This does not automatically mean that the feed bags go on and its a feeding frenzy at the lake. You can have off days during post spawn too where the skunk can still be smelled. I've caught a few macks out of that durn lake but, to say, never anything over 5 lbs. I'm not worried about catching the big 20 pounder, I'd just like to break the stupid 5 lb barrier.

My brother thinks I'm crazy when I release the 3 to 5 pounders I catch because we grew up catching small rainbows and brookies out of mountain lakes and streams. Anything that wouldn't fit in the frying pan was a BIG one!
