quail/ sand hollow report
#1
i finally made it up to st. george this weekend after threatening to for weeks on end[Smile]. started at quail and found the water level was down a ton. the first pic is the same place as the second one was taken 2 months ago. found lots of small bass 3 to 8" long off shore. caught a few with one of tube dudes custom made bait bugs, thanx TD. could have cauhgt a ton if i wanted, they were pretty agressive. couldn't find anything bigger at quail. i shoulda taken my tube out of the trunk but my friend was shore bound so i stayed on the beach too.[unsure] drove over to sand hollow and went off the rocks just past the ramp on the east side. tons of small bass biting on little worms or grubs or, again TD's bait bugs. gave up on the little dudes and try for some bigger ones. started tossing a senko wacky rigged and getting some good bites. caught some decent sized ones but nothing to write home about. then as i dragged my senko to shore past all the small one i saw a huge bass shoot out of a submerged shrub and nail it!!! fought it for about 3 mins. it was pullin a lot of drag and i only had 4 lb. line from my last trout fishing trip. got him to shore and he made one last run straight down into the shrub and tangled my line in it. so, being a true fisherman, or a guys who really wanted this fish, i waded in waist deep to grab this brute. i had my pole in one hand and i grabbed his lip with the other, he shook, i hooked myself, the line broke and away he swam. [pirate]. boy did that suck. i'm gonna consider it an easy release and a fish landed, cuz as previously stated, i'm a true fisherman and thats what we do. right? anyway got a few smaller ones and then the wind kicked up so i went to iceberg for dinner and drove on home to vegas.

all in all it was a good day, nice weather and waaaay better than being in vegas.

there is still some great opportunity to hook up with some nice bass down here. get to southern utah!!!!

i posted a couple of piacs of the small guys, 1 from quail and 1 from sand hollow, and the last 2 pics are some sand hollow bass from my last trip there about 6 weeks ago. just thought i'd throw em on for people to see.

I was looking at the first two pics, and I have to say thats ugly.

If you were fishing a river and the water dropped like that, you would get a whole lot of current and that can be good, but on a reservior, thats just ugly.

Anyways its good to see you got a couple nice ones in the end.

Thanks for the report. I wish I could get down there this fall. "found lots of small bass 3 to 8" long off shore" That was the pattern I always used to find at Quail this time of year. Have you had a chance to try for those big trout-fed stripers at Hemenway harbor yet?

no, not yet. i'm going to be in salt lake this weekend for my daughters birthday and next weekend my bro. in law will be down here from slc for the weekend and i'll be doing the tour guide thing so hopefully in 3 weeks i'll be able to get out there and try for them. thats my plan anyway, and since i never bought a nevada lisence i'm just going to get a one day permit till next year so i need to wait till i have 1 whole day to spend out there instead of making some evening runs after work. but when i get a chance i'll ley you know how it went.

Hey, that nice one counts as a catch and release in my book. Especially since you went in after it - you get double credit for that.

BTW - great photos !
