What new Ice prep project/s is everyone working on for this coming season.
Tri-M and I are building a new portable shanty. When set up it will be about the size as a Quick Flip III 6' wide, 6' tall, and 8' long inside but when toren down and closed up all of it frame and fabric shell is inclosed and protected from the weather for travel, there nothing left hangin' out, yet it takes up less space (6'X24"X28"). Weight will be about the same as the Q-flip III I suppose but we have a little red mule to do the pulling for us. Whats more it has lots of storage under the padded seat and seat back which doubles as a bed. We tend to pull a few over nighters on the ice from time to time so its nice if one person can get a little shut eye while the other/s keep the shanty fires burnin'..
The box and collapsible metal pole frame work is complete. All we have left to do is install the seat/bed and make the unit's fabric shell so at this time we're merely waiting for the fabric to arrive to start the cutting and sewing process (hopefully within a week)... Yes, zippered door, clear vinyl widows, and vents included.
Comparable factory built cost, $550.00-$600.00 We figure we'll be into this project around $240.00 when complete and it will far better meet our needs compared to any factory built unit.. Set up and tear down time for a single person (without the fabric installed at this time) is about 90 seconds but I doubt it will take much longer to set up or tear down once the fabric shell is in place..
Good luck to all this Ice fishin' season! I hope ya Maul a Monster!
