Black Canyon
#1
Took a drive up to Idaho sunday. Snowy and cold but it was worth it. Moss was not as bad as I expected. Small midge patterns worked well for us. Lots of rainbows.

Is this the Black Canyon by the power station by Grace? I used to fish it in July and had great success catching Rainbows in the 12" to 16" size range. Even then nymphing worked much better than dries. The fishers [cracks in the rock] in the river sure make it difficult to walk the river without getting wet. I would step into a fisher and drop 3' in one step. Scared me to death, but it was worth it for the great fishing.

that it is. Never have nymphed it,looks way to tough to nymph.

I get in by crossing the bridge and then walk into the water. I let my line fall over the steeps and into the pools below. Very effective up there, just watch your step!

Like most places the further you get from the parking lot the better the fishing gets. I really like the Black Canyon but I fish it past the ponds.

By the ponds, do you mean above the fish farm? Do you walk up there or is there other access?
