Highland Lakes (Buchanan & LBJ) Guide Report
#1
Lake Buchanan: Water stained-clear; 57 degrees; 1013.66'

Bass continue to hang around and feed on big pods of shad which presents the fisherman the opportunity for some great surface action. Flats in pockets and the creeks from Beaver to Cedar Point are areas where 1/4 oz. Bleeding Shad Rat-L-Traps and small profile brown jigs like a 3/16 oz. Terminator finesse jig w/pork trailers will catch numbers
of fish along ledges on major creeks.

Largemouth are fair to good on stumps and laydowns in 5'-10'
using brown-pumpkin 3/16 oz. Terminator jigs, pumpkin JDC Gibroni on jigheads and pitching a black-blue Super Tube Heavy. Along ledges inside of secondary creek points drop shot rigs with pumpkin Devil's Tongues and smoke-red 5" JDC Craws are producing 6'-15' of water some quality bass.

Stripers are fair to good in 28' around Flag Island drifting live bait, casting 3" Spoiler Shads and jigging Pirk Minnows.

Lake LBJ: Water stained-clear; 58 degrees; 824.88' (full):
Midmorning through the afternoon hours is the most productive period for numbers of bass as they school up to chase baitfish that begin to move after sunlight has a chance to warm the water. Schooling activity can happen at anytime, but afternoons are best. That's when 1/4 oz. Rat-L-Traps, shad imitators like a Spoiler Shad and Terminator spinnerbaits produce best. Docks w/stationary wooden legs are holding fish during the passage of fronts. A purple-
pink 1/4 oz. Rattlin' Terminator jig or blk/blue Super Tube Heavy are good choices there.

Bass are fair to good in 5'-10' on laydowns and brushpiles along breaklines using green-pumpkin Scoundrel worms, Texas rigged watermelon-red Snap Back creature baits and 4" JDC Strike Grubs. Cranking medium running chartreuse-blue back crankbaits and pearl Spoiler Shads over flats and down points and along boulder rock points is productive.

Stripers are fair in the shoals below Inks Dam on pearl Spoiler Shads and free lining live bait.

Crappie are fair on minnows over brushpiles along docks.
