Jon E Handwarmers - How do they work?
#1
I hate to bother you guys with this, but as I was ice fishing last week, I was having a hard time keeping my hands warm. My dad gave me a set of Jon E handwarmers and some lighter fluid. I'm planning on taking them next time I go, but I don't know how to work these things. I have searched the web for an hour looking for instructions. Can I get a little help from the Jon E crowd.

I know where the fuel goes, but how do you light these buggars? How do you put them out after you're done? Any safety concerns with these in your pockets next to some very important items (ie keys, wallet, unit, etc..)

By the way ice fishing for Tiger Trout all over the Manti Lasals and Thousand Lakes ranges is excellent.

born2fish,

After filling with lighter fluid, place the "wick cap" back on. Light the "wick cap" and let it flame for a minute or two. Blow out the flame and place the cap on over the wick cap and place within the flannel pouch. The amount of heat generated depends on much air is allowed to reach it, so you can adjust the heat by opening or closing the adjustable string.

To put them out, simply take off the "wick cap". Please be extremely careful, these devices can get fairly toasty.

Despite the smell it generates, this are fairly pocket itemed friendly.

It's a nice subsuite for the disposable hand warmers.
