Went up to Mantua and had my best day ever through the ice for Gills. Got on the ice by the boat launch and started walking out to the back left corner where every one else was but didn't like the seam of ice most of the way there so turned around and moved back by where I normally fish. Started getting serious about fishing around noon. Ended up leaving the ice with 27 gills 7 perch and a 17 inch rainbow. Must have caught at least 40 gills 15 perch 1 bass and 6 trout during the day. Fished in 12 feet of water right above the weeds with 1/80 ounce hair jigs I had tied up at Hooked Fishing Tackle in Kaysville. Tried some other jigs and spoons tipped with eyeballs and wax worms but caught all the fish on the jigs tipped with maggots.

Nice report. Great news. I love gills through the ice. Perch are nice too and trout are a bonus for me. I fish Mantua this summer twice from the boat. (small alum) I probed around but really only covered about 1/4th of the water.
How was the ice other than the crack?

6-8 inches but had 2 inches of water on top when you cleared the snow off. I will be heading up again on Friday if it isn't snowwing.

Awesome report! I'd love to catch more Bluegills out of there myself. I don't think I've ever caught a trout there, so that's my goal. : )
I'm still trying to find the best spots there at Mantua.

You certainly did much better than we did on Saturday up there. Which stores sell maggots?

Kent, you can get those mealworms (maggots) at the Burger King/gas station right there off the highway, at the traffic light where you can turn off to Hyrum.
Not sure where else you can buy them.

I carry meal worms, wax worms and maggots. I get the maggots at Smith and Edwards only place I have found them this year.
