Strawberry night trip
#1
We decided that we needed to try a little night fishing on the Berry. So we got all of our gear ready, but got a late start Sunday night. Saw a big group of Bull Elk on the way up the canyon which was a cool start to our expedition. We ended up at SBB at about 12:30am...... it was MUCHO Cold!!! There was just a slight breeze when we got there. By the time we walked to the spot where we wanted to fish and set up camp... it was about 4am. We drilled some holes and immediatly had fish on the finders. The big wind started and didn't stop until we began packing up to head out. We had a pretty good outing and between the 2 of us iced 42 cutts. The biggest was 23" and we caught a couple of others that just broke the slot length. We had fish moving through fairly consistantly up until about 2:30pm Monday. We ended up leaving the Marina at around 7pm. The thermometer showed a cool -3 degrees on the way out. Our windows on the inside of the blazer were icing up!!!

Thanks for the report! I'm not sure if starting fishing at 4:00 AM counts as a night fishing trip but it certainly is a VERY VERY early morning trip!![Wink] LOL What in the heck did you do from 12:30 AM til 4 AM. Did you walk across the whole lake? Sounds like an adventure for sure! Thanks again for the report and glad you caught some good fish!

Yeah Bigcat...I Know......[Smile]. It was our intention to get there a bit earlier. See..... I took my 2 kids.... a 10 year old and an 8 year old....both boys. Since we had planned to stay on the lake for a while.... I packed a whole sh*t load of gear. Didn't want the kids to freeze and my wife threatened my life. By the time that we got to the spot where we fished...(and NO it wasn't across the WHOLE lake....only about half [crazy])... and set up camp, it was about 4am. I'm totally hooked on ice fishing...... but heck it is alot of work when you have to worry about the young ones!!!

Yes.... it was quite the adventure, but the kids had a good time, even though they didn't fish too much.... and me and my brother-in-law caught a few fish...... Good Stuff!!!

I definately need to invest in some snow machines!!!

Laters,

I'm jealous. Strawberry Res. is probably my favorite place to fish in Utah...but I don't get over there too often since I live in Cache Valley.
I'd say that the 'Berry is probably Utah's best fishery and I'm sure many of you agree with me.

Thanks for the good laugh[Tongue]. I know how it is traveling with kids onto the ice. It always takes twice as long as it should[pirate]. You are brave to take them out at night. I sometimes have a hard time keeping my kids (2 1/2, 6, and 9) warm in the afternoon. The afternoon is better for them to sled down the hill too when they are bored of fishing. Thanks again for the report. I am hoping to get up there for some night fishing soon.
