[font "Times New Roman"][size 3]Right now, the Gulf Restoration Network is joining up with commercial and recreational fishermen, shrimp fishermen, charterboat captains, and environmental groups to make sure Shell Oil uses fish-friendly closed-loop LNG on their proposed offshore LNG Terminal in the Gulf. Just for a brief overview, offshore Liquid Natural Gas Terminals must warm up super-cooled Liquid Natural Gas so that it can be put into pipelines and delivered to customers. There are several ways to do this. Oil and Gas companies want to use open loop technology to warm up the LNG. In the process, they would chlorinate and chill up to 195 million gallons of our Gulf’s seawater each day! This would kill everything contained in the water including fish eggs, larvae, and zooplankton. The last thing our fisheries need right now is more strain, so the Gulf Restoration Network and fishermen all across the Gulf States are working to make sure fish-friendly closed loop LNG is used on all proposed terminals. This technology wouldn’t use Gulf seawater to warm up the LNG and is only marginally more expensive. Shell Oil and others have shown no desire to use this technology in our Gulf despite their plans to use it in New England and California.[/size][/font]

This is a really fun and effective way of showing Shell publicly that we want the livelihood and sport protected by their use of fish-friendly closed loop technology on their proposed offshore liquid natural gas terminal.
