Turn In Poachers organization recognized by DNR
#1
Minnesota's recognition as some of the best freshwater fishing and hunting in the world is the result of the dedication of a lot of people and organizations. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recognized Turn In Poachers (TIP) as being one of those organizations during an awards ceremony Feb. 1 at Camp Ripley.

"Since its inception, TIP has been a deterrent to the senseless waste of wildlife and is extremely beneficial to the DNR Enforcement Division," said Chief Conservation Officer Col. Mike Hamm.

Established in 1981, TIP is a private, nonprofit organization that provides monetary rewards of up to $1,000 to encourage the public to report natural resource violations. The information and the person reporting can be kept confidential.

"TIP has had many officers, directors and members who have worked countless hours without compensation and without recognition," Hamm said. "We hope our small token of appreciation, serves to show our appreciation for all this organization does for us."

Hamm said state conservation officers have made more than 5,000 cases over the past 25 years because of TIP, which has paid more than $350,000 in rewards.

Anyone witnessing a fish or wildlife code violation is encouraged to contact the TIP hotline at 1-800-652-9093.
