have you guys ever heard the saying an ounce of prevention is worth a lb of cure?
To make a long story short. Did it ever cross your guys mind that the people who do the certification of private hathceries are not the same people that certify our state hatchereis and rivers.
Further, did it ever occur to you guys that the process of certifiying disease free fish is not 100% safe. Did you guys also realize that a lot of the private hathcereies in the state had a real lax attitude about transporting these disease free fish between each other (not illegal, but wd is most easily transferred through live fish and thisw risk can be elinated by transporting only eggs. Did you also realize that about 1 year and a half ago one of those hatcheries tested positive for wd. When it did all nearly all of the rest of the private hatchereis in the state tested positive for WD.
Did any of you guys realize that the same people you guys are basically calling idiots have spent the better part of the last 18 months trying to figure out which of our public waters were contaiminated with wd from the sale of these "certified" fish to private fish ponds.
There was also a very large push when nearly the entire aquaculture business in the state was going out of business to get us to accept these fish in our waters so these hatcheries could operate.
Did you slso know that when the issue pf rewritting the rules was brought before the Utah Anglers Coalition, bass, walleye, trout and dwr were 100% in asgreement to use extra caustion on this issue and support the dwr.
That is why you will never see those fish in an urban fishery. Will taking the fish up to cabela's jurt? Probably not, but why risk it? Given that we have two fish hathcereis down because of wd and these guys have been so busy hunting down those diseased "disease free fish" in the last two years let's cut them a break. Jusk kill the fish at the end of the show.
