Cisco are showing up[/size] on the Rock Pile at Bear Lake. Serious spawning activity should begin within the next few days. Next weekend (Jan. 24) may be the best time to go after them. The lake has open water and conditions may be very cold, particularly early in the morning. Look for cisco at first light around Cisco Beach, the Rock Pile and the State Park marina. You may be able to get some using dip nets but you'll probably do better jigging. Lake trout and cutthroat fishing usually slows during the cisco spawn. Utah's Blue Ribbon Fishery Advisory Council will report on its progress at a public meeting at Sportsman's Warehouse in Provo on Jan. 29, 6 p.m. The council works with DWR and other groups to enhance fishing, improve waters and expand public access.

Huntington and Cleveland reservoirs have hazardous ice conditions.
Joes Valley now offers good ice fishing for splake but ice may soon become hazardous because the water level is being drawn down. Use caution.
Fish Lake is the hot spot for ice fishing. Action is fast for splake, with most running 12-15 inches. A few larger splake are available, along with rainbows and lake trout. White jigs tipped with perch or sucker meat have been best.
Strawberry has been spotty has been spotty, best before 10 am. Foxy jigs tipped with some kind of worm have worked well.
Scofield has slowed; success is now poor to fair.
Pineview is spotty for perch. Action can be very good when you get into a school. Work our from Cemetery and Browning points for fish running 8.5-10.5 inches. Take a fish finder and move around until you locate an active school. Crappie are caught occasionally.
Hyrum is fair to good for trout and an occasional panfish. Perch fishing has been slow. There is a ring of soft ice around the shoreline so be careful.
Echo Reservoir has fast fishing for small perch. Trout action has slowed.
East Canyon ice is not considered safe. There has been enough open water for shore fishing in some areas.
Rockport now has ice but state park officials warn is not safe. However, some anglers have ventured out and report good success for rainbows.
Otter Creek offers good ice fishing for nice rainbows.
Panguitch Lake offers fair ice fishing for rainbows.
Steinaker and Red Fleet offer good ice fishing for rainbows.
Utah Lake has unsafe ice.
Jordanelle has mostly open water. The boat ramp is open but often slippery. Good for smaller trout.
Deer Creek has slow to fair fishing in open water. The main state park boat ramp is usable.
Flaming Gorge has good ice fishing on the north end, down to about Currant Creek. There is open water on the Utah side and boat ramps are usable, except for Anvil, which was closed because of low water. Rainbow fishing is excellent from boat and shore.
Lake Powell has surprisingly good striper fishing in the Hite area. Low water is restricting access. Read the excellent report by Wayne Gustaveson: [url "http://www.wayneswords.com/"]www.wayneswords.com[/url]
Weber River anglers report improved success for browns and whitefish. Hare's ear, prince nymphs and San Juan worm work well. Rapalas also work for the browns.
Green River has been good for browns using nymphs or throwing jigs or Rapalas.
Other good streams include the Provo, Blacksmith, Ogden and the Sevier south of the town of Hatch.
