I'm in the market for a new spinning reel and was wondering what everyone's favorite reel may be? I'm looking for one somewhere in the $20-30 range, and I'm not sure which brand is generally most popular. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

Thanks Brett! Yeah I've been leaning toward a Mitchell. There are so many to choose from.
I'd like to hear any other opinions out there : )

I got my first Shimano when I was 12. It's been good to me, and I've added 2 more Shimanos to the collection for other purposes. They have a few models in that price range.

[cool][#0000ff]I still have and use some light Shimanos I got over 20 years ago. I have also tried many Mitchells, Daiwas, Quantums and Pfluegers. You usually get what you pay for...but not always.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]During the last year I have been gravitating toward the small Okumas. Lots of bearings for the bucks. Very smooth operation and great drags. I have six of them, in three models and like them all.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Cabelas has a special in-store sale right now on their ultralight Okumas. Regularly $39.99...now $9.99.[/#0000ff]

I have been a Mitchell fan for years, but a couple years ago James over at Hooked talked me into buying an Okuma 30. I really like the smooth operation. I now have the Okuma in 5 sizes.

Hey I'll chime in too. I have an old Mitchell Copperhead that I have just loved and beat to death and it is still going. Having said that, I wanted to get another one and took a look at them and it looked like they began to make them a little bit cheaper in recent years (a lot of plastic parts). I went with a 308X Gold and have loved it so far (but just had it since Christmas). I got it for under $30 on Cabela's year end clearance. I've seen the 308X around since for 39.99. The gold has more bearings than the regular one and seems a lot more hearty.
My 2 cents.

For the money the Okumas are a great product. I have and use several and I beat them up pretty good. They take a lickn and keep on tickn. I agree with TD, smooth reliable reel.

Do you know what model that is? Are they the aluminum-bodied or graphite-bodied?
Well...I suppose I could just call them, or even (gasp) make a trip down there. But that would be too easy!

[cool]I'm not TubeDude, but let me chime in here as I got the Cabela's insert out of the paper yesterday. Here's what it says regarding the Okuma reel:
Okuma Futura UL Spin Reel
*Six ball bearings
*5.0:1 gear ratio
*Graphite Frane and rotor
*Line capacity 115/4lb
Looks like one heck of an ultralite/panfish and or ice fishing reel. Think I might have to get down there. It would be an awesome crappie/bluegill type reel to use at Mantua, Pelican, etc.

[#0000ff]But, wait a minute. When I looked it up on line, I found the regular price listed as $19.99...not the $34.99 reg. price as stated in the ad. HM-M-M-M-M-M?[/#0000ff]
Okuma Futura FT-15 Spinning Reel Item:OG-120391 Reg: $19.99 Sale: $9.99

I love my Mitchell Advocet's. Their only like 20$, and they stand up to anything. I've got one on my Medium and Ultra Light rods, and both have performed excellently. I also turned my dad onto one for his birthday about a year ago, and he's had great luck with his, too. For 20$ their well worth the price.

Thanks for all the responses guys!
That is one fine looking reel. I may just have to go with one of those Okumas. So many choices out there. It's cool to get everyone's input.

[cool][#0000ff]Just remember, reels are a lot like lures. A good fisherman can catch fish with a poor one but a bad fisherman can't catch fish with even the best one.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The biggest problem with most reels is the "loose nut on the handle".[/#0000ff]

yeah tube dude, i bought a cheap trolling reel last year. i was pretty stoked when i caught a nice 4 lb koke on it! but as my dad was netting it the handle fell apart and went into the lake! the nut worked itself loose. all well, you get what you pay for i suppose.
