#1
March 2, 2006
CENTER HILL - (3/2/06) - Fishing is slow. The water temperature at the Highway 56 Bridge is 50 degrees; lake is rising. A few bass are being caught on small jigs on bluffs in 5-to-15 feet of water. Above the bridge has been best. Crappie fishing has been fair with small jigs around cover in the rivers.
CHICKAMAUGA - (3/2/06) -
Bass anglers are catching a lot of fish on points in the upper section of the lake on the main river channel. Slow cranking is the method that is working better than anything else. The mid to lower area of the lake is holding bass along flat ledges that break into the main channel. Irregular notches along the flat breaks are holding the larger concentration of bass. Crankbaits that are fished slowly are producing the numbers. Flipping blowdowns along the main channel is allowing for fewer but heavier fish. Tailwater fishing is good. White bass activity is best at dusk. Spoons and roostertails are being used most often. One quarter ounce jigs with four inch grubs are being used to catch rockfish up to twenty pounds. A few shellcrackers are being caught near the nuclear plant at Watts Bar. Rockfish are being caught near Sequoyah Nuclear Plant where the water from the plant flows into the river. Crappie are being caught near the river cuts in the middle area of the lake. Crappie are being caught by drifters and trollers in the large creeks in the lower areas of the lake while using jigs and minnows. Slow fishing will allow for more bites. Sauger fishing is slow. A few are being caught near Eave's Bluff across from Yuchi. Bouncing heavy jigs along the bottom is the better way to catch sauger.
DALE HOLLOW - (3/2/06) - Fishing is fair. The water temperature is 45 degrees at Lillydale; lake is still rising slowly. A few good smallmouth are being caught on jigs and the float'n'fly method on main lake bluffs in 15-to-25 feet of water. Crappie fishing is slow with a few fish being caught in grass and woody cover in 10-to-15 feet of water. Above sunset dock has been the best area.
WATTS BAR - (3/2/06) - Crappie anglers are catching crappie deep in brush along cuts close to the river. Jigs and minnows are both being used. Blowdowns along the river are also holding a few crappie. Bass are being caught more often in the main channel. Points and irregular flat drops are better than other areas. Slow fishing with anything will work. Sauger fishing is slower than normal but a few are being caught below Ft. Loudoun Dam. Current flow is important. White bass and rockfish are also being caught on jerkbaits, jigs, spoons and live shad. The Clinch River is also being fished for rockfish and some of the bigger fish are being caught in this area. The numbers however have not been impressive. Bank anglers near the steam plant are catching crappie.
