Bass Clubs needed for B.I.T.E. Program
#1
[Image: TWRA_Bite_Logo.gif]Tennessee bass clubs can help themselves and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency by participating in a program designed to improve the management of bass populations.
Reservoir bass fisheries are one of Tennessee's most important recreational resources. Recent surveys of reservoir anglers identified black bass as the most sought after sport fish in the Volunteer State.
The TWRA solicits data from clubs and tournament organizations across the state for B.I.T.E. (Bass Information from Tournament Entries) program.
Participating clubs receive an annual report that provides information by club and reservoir on the average sizes of bass, the hours it takes to catch a five-pound bass, catch rates by number and weight and more. For instance, the average weight of bass weighed in in 2003 was 2.07 pounds and the average time it took to catch a bass five pounds or greater was 351 hours. Catch rates were 1.65 bass and 3.41 pounds per 10 hours of fishing.
State fisheries biologists use this data to document trends in bass populations and the TWRA needs the support of every bass club in Tennessee to make this program a success.
Bass clubs choosing to participate in B.I.T.E. will be provided post-paid cards to be completed and mailed following each tournament. Card information includes what is normally compiled by bass club officials and only one card per tournament is required. You can now even submit your clubs tournament data online.
Clubs wanting to participate in B.I.T.E. should contact the TWRA Fisheries Division at (615) 781-6575 or use this BITE form.
