Over 25 years ago a small group of community leaders met and decided that they needed an event to showcase the great fall fishing Southport-Oak Island area has to offer. The prize money for the first tournament was guaranteed by those community leaders signing a promissory note at a local financial institution - thus the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament was born. The U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament now attracts almost 500 boats annually and is held in high esteem by the community and anglers. An all CASH GUARANTEED prize structure adds to the enjoyment of the event. The tournament guarantees its entire prize structure; it is not based on the number of boats that participate. The tournament pays 55 places in its primary prize category including $25,000 for the largest king mackerel. Additional cash prizes are added to the event by sponsors.

Probably not this year, but next year just might happen. It's really not bad to enter, it's a little over 200 bucks a boat. Like 245 or something around there. Biggest fish is 25,000 dollars. Snook.hooker and I were previously chatting about entering before hand. I think it would be killer to get an all BFT team together. We were trying to get Tubn2 to be the third. I've got the boat, just need people to spit the money with.[cool]

tubn2 is way on the west coast, you two are on the east coast, Tubn2 would deffently an asset to any team,

there is another angler close to home if you cant swing him, "Bryum" He is quit an angler as well and I would hesitate a moment to throw him on my boat team. You can find him on the carolina board next to yours.

Ya that would be great to have a south east adventure, did you hear about the wiper event they are holding in Utah?

Yeah, i've seen the post about it. I snooped around a bit, but wasn't able to get a whole lot of info. My first question was,

"what the heck is a wiper?"

From what the pictures look like, either a Hybrid or white bass. I figured as much out on that. Next time I might just tackle that thing if i'm able to do a little traveling.

I've been wanting to get something going here in the Myrtle Beach area of SC for the longest. I'd love to organize a tournament for BFT, but i've got to get enough local anglers involved first, and that's the hard part. Most can't afford to travel, or travel and bring a boat. So the way my mind works, i'm thinking I need enough local anglers with watery transport before I can get anything going. Murrells inlet rents boats, but then they don't have electronics or anything like that, so the people renting boats, and not knowing the local area, would be fishing blind. For all that matter, if I could just get 3 or 4 bft members, that's enough for a bft fishing trip right there. I think it would be awesome to get a few guys together, and enjoy a weekend of fishing. I've volenteered my boat and time in the past, but no takers. I wonder if they think i'm a bad driver Dave? LOL And anytime you'd like to check out the S. East, just let me know![cool]

[font "Arial Black"][red][size 3] Hey Tarpon4me , A Wiper is a Hybrid. It is a cross of a White bass with a Striper. It's like catching a Football with an attitude, lots of fun.[/size][/red][/font]

Hey there AFDan, thanks for the clear up on that. I knew it was one of the two, though I wasn't sure. I know we have striper, hybrids, and white bass here, along with one of the best fisheries of those species at certain times of year, Santee Cooper river/lakes. I guess striper and hybrids just aren't as popular here as there. I'm sure they are right at the santee and wateree, but it's the same distance from the Atlantic Ocean as it is from Santee, so I guess i'd always spend the gas money on the trip to the ocean.

The "AF" in your login doesn't stand for "Air Force" does it? I did 6 in the AF. [cool]
