rod holder
#1
seeking help on building rod holder. Just purchased caddis 2000 Pro.

What is the length of rod pvc holder do you use? Planning on making holder for 3 rods plus landing net.

Purchased PVC 1 1/4" ID, pipe clamps, and wood for base.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. at 67 yrs young I figured
would give this type of fishing a try.

POWDERKEG WELCOME ABOARD. I MADE ONE FOR MY ODC 420 BUT I USED THINNER 1" PVC THE 1 1/4" WAS TOO BULKY ONCE IT WAS ALL PUT TOGETHER. AS FOR THE LENGHT IT DEPENDS ON THE SIZE OF YOUR TUBE AND THE DISTANCE FROM D-RING TO D-RING. GUESSTIMATING IT'S ABOUT 6" TO 7" PAST EACH D-RING. HERE'S THE LINKS TO THE ONES I BUILT.

[#0000ff]I agree with AT...1 1/4" is plenty large, but is heavier than you need to get the job done. If your rods are standard sized handles they will fit inside the tubes of 1" schedule 20 PVC...not the heavier walled schedule 40. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Your design will be limited by your own creativity and how well you work with PVC. Here's a pic of the current 4 tube rack I use, which would fit your needs. I am also testing another model right now that I have not taken pics of.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As has been suggested, you will be guided by the distance between the D rings, and how you plan to attach the rack. Do some measurements and get back to us.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]As a general rule, I like to leave about 4" to 5" between rod tubes, to allow the reels to get along. I also cut the tubes long enough to try to keep the rod handles out of the water. That can be a good idea if you have nice cork handles. [/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]The schedule 40 (heavy) works fine. I used it on several rod holders in the past. As long as you can drive up and launch, and don't have to pack your loaded up tube too far, there should be no problem. [/#0000ff]
