Minnesota Youth Win State-Fish Art Contest
#1
, MN—The Art Institutes International Minnesota hosted a special Early Earth Day press conference late last month to recognize the Minnesota winners of Wildlife Forever’s 2006 State-Fish Art Contest. Fishing legend Babe Winkelman was on hand with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Gene Merriam to recognize the young artists and celebrate the state’s fishing and outdoor traditions.
A panel of judges selected the following young Minnesotans for their walleye artwork:
Grades 4-6: Christopher Wreede of Litchfield, Minnesota.
Grades 7-9: Ryan Wreede of Litchfield, Minnesota.
Grades 10-12: Troy Truesdell of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.
The winning walleye artwork was on display in Ai Minnesota’s Gallery. The contest winners were present and each received personal congratulations from Winkelman, Merriam and Wildlife Forever President and CEO Douglas Grann.
The Minnesota winners of the 2006 State-Fish Art contest will also be recognized during the 8th Annual State-Fish Art Expo at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, on July 29, 2006. A massive art display will feature every piece of State-Fish Art artwork from across the country and an awards ceremony will be held to recognize the young artists before a large mall crowd. Each winning artist who attends the expo will receive a Blue ribbon Rapala rod and reel, a gift certificate for art supplies from Cheap Joe's Art Stuff and other prizes. The event at Mall of America is free and open to the public.
Contest winners who attend the expo will also participate in an artist’s workshop and luncheon hosted by The Art Institutes International Minnesota.
The artists and their families who attend the expo will also receive free entry to Minnesota’s Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome to watch the Minnesota Twins play the Detroit Tigers on July 30. The artists and their artwork will be recognized in a special pre-game ceremony on the Metrodome playing field.
