Hey Acer7:

I had good luck last weekend (bass, no butts) with the pale white tail and a plain 1 1/2 ounce head (no eyes, color or anything on the head). I'm not sure if pale white adequately describes the tail color. It is sort of a pearl white looking to me.

We were fishing right off of Point Loma by the kelp and lobster pots on the North side of the bay entrance. I switched over to the chartruese tails and didn't get any bites. I have also been trying several of the brown and green tails but haven't gotten anything to bite on them.

Good luck!!

Thank you Steve I will try it out. I've been fishing the Spanish landing park that is in front of the Airport. I've landed some nice Sand Bass, what other areas do you recommend????

Hey ACER7:

The only places I've had luck at so far has been at the mouth of the Bay and out at the Whistle Bouy. We were going to try by SeaPort village last Saturday but got run off from there due to the Super Bowel. I'm relatively new to San Diego and am pretty much still learning myself. Lately, weather/waves permitting, we are heading down to the Coronado Islands in Mexico and bottom fishing. However, I always try back inside the Bay either before leaving or when coming back. I've tried numerous times by the bait barges and have yet to pick up anything other than mackeral. The place I heard that is pretty hot right now is the discharge pipe off of Imperial Beach. I was going to go by there last weekend, but just ran out of time. Thanks for the tip on the Spanish landing park, I don't think I've tried that area.

Hey Steve-

If you happened to go out to Spanish landing try fishing the man made beach and the rocks to the right of the beach. Use the pearl color shad boddies with the 1/4oz lead head. I have caught some nice size sand bass and a keeper butt from that area. If your boat is small enough maybe you can fish close to the rocks. My brother and I have caught BIG sheep heads from that area.(the rocks close to the big island as you get to it.)

Hey Acer7:

I'll definitely try that spot. My daughter caught our first and only sheephead the other day and boy was it good eating. She had a blast landing it (she's 10 yrs old). I thought it was going to pull her in. That pearl color shad body has been the ONLY color that has worked for me recently.

Thanks again for the tips. I plan on posting again this coming Monday if we catch anything this weekend.
