The Good News!
On the morning of the boat shed and boat fire, it had been scheduled for the guys to come and lift the mobile home. That morning when they arrived, they were stunned to see what had happen just hours earlier. This same company that was lifting the mobile home, was the same company that had built our boat dock years earlier.
They helped Ben get the back of the boat down which was caught in the up position. The front had already fallen during the fire. When they got it down, Nicky (the owner of the business) told Ben (because he knew the story of our rebuilding efforts) not to worry so much that he was going to donate to us another boat strap and motor w/control box. That alone was a big help! Just those three items cost over $500 and we had just replaced all the boat hoist motors after Katrina because the saltwater had froze them up. And yes, the water got that high.
Well back to the good news! These pictures were taken yesterday. The mobile home now sits three stories high!! This is the highest anyone has lifted a home down in that area except for one other person. That persons house had no water damage and no wind damage to it after the hurricane. We're hoping that ours will fair out just as well if we get another bad one.
Not to mention that these people that are lifting it, have only lifted two others and those two are standing perfect. Although those did get a little water inside but the outside of them had no damage. They looked perfect after the hurricane.
He's finished lifting it and is now in the process of putting up the cross braces and will be starting on the steps and decking. It should be finished by this weekend and on Monday, we will be housing the guys that will be coming down to working on our boat dock.
Things are looking up! Let's just hope and pray that Chris doesn't turn into a bad hurricane and come our way. I think that you would have to lock both me and Ben up in the mental hospital if Chris turned out to be a bad hurricane like Katrina.
