Hello,
I am from the Baton Rouge area. Not within the city but just outside in the "burbs", Central area. The people on the river bank where no doubt fishing for blue catfish. Lots of catfish in the river and some huge ones too. I have seen pictures of some over 100 lbs.

Some advice to anyone fishing the Mississippi river. The catfish in the river are so fat from all the food they eat that the fillets taste funny. If possible put the fish in a holding pen for about 4 days. This could be in the river or someother place. They will taste better after they are on a crash diet.

As far as saltwater fishing close to New Orleans. You don't have to look any further than Lake Pontchartrian or Lafitte or Reggio areas. Lake Pontchartrain may not hold the numbers of specks that other areas hold but on the east side they have some monsters. Reggio and Lafitte are close and both offer top notch speck and redfishing as well as great freshwater as well.

If you are looking for offshore action you can take a look at Eccentric charters out of Lafitte. They offer offshore trips and will even pick you up at your hotel if you want. You can contact them at http://www.thejump.net/eccentric/eccentric.html

omegaman66
omegaman66@home.com
