Where did all the bluegill come from in Deer Creek? I haven't fished DC for a couple of years, but thought I'd check out the smallies last Monday. Every cast the tiny buggers would attack whatever you threw. I went through about $15 worth of senkos. I used to fish DC about 40 times a year and never saw a bluegill.
Since there is hardly any cover in Deer Creek, the bluegill are trying to survive by living about a foot from shore.
By the way, we did catch 9 smallmouth in about 4 hours; nothing over 14".

wow. ive never caught on i dc before either. how big was the biggest one. size may determin anser to question about how long. the large mouths will love them...

Really tiny, about 3". It is going to change the fishing since the primary food source for the bass was crawdads.

Bluegill have been in Deer Creek for a long time. I caught a few of them when I was a kid (and that was about 50 years ago).

I'll be darned. I don't know where they were when I was fishing DC about 50 times a year several years ago. Their size it what led me to believe they were a recent introduction.

I would imagine that with all of the higher water, and the resultant flooded vegetation they had a banner year.

I picked up a bunch of green sunfish about this time last year in DC, right up against the bank (like a foot from shore). They were all dinks. I haven't caught any yet this year; I'm not targeting the foot or two from the shore this year, either.

I know that there are a ton of Green Sunfish in there. I personally have never seen bluegills in the "Creek".
I have posted the two and would like to know which ones you guys were catching.
I have seen some crappie come out of there as well. That was about 10 Years ago.

They might all be green sunfish, but quite certain they were bluegill that I caught when I was a youngster. I used to fish Spring Lake a lot as a kid and it was full of both green sunfish and bluegills so I was familiar with the difference early on in my angling years.
