Replaced the Hydraulic Steering in my boat.
#1
I have a 88 Sea Ray and replaced the steering helm and hoses a few weeks ago.
They guy that usually works on my boat wanted to soak me for about $1000 telling me that the helm that he ordered (wrong part) was not compatible with my steering system and he would have to order a new steering cylinder and new hoses like $1400 in parts alone... When I questioned the price he got all upset and I told him I did not want the wrong part and have to buy other parts to make the wrong part work.
Called a sea ray dealership and they had the right helm in no time (something that my regular mechanic) said that there is no way I could get) I replaced the hoses and the helm (sea star) in no time. Really easy to install and bleed. If any of you are thinking about replacing your cable steering with hydraulic, it is really as easy as they say, not hard at all...
