Glad you could help out at the fair. I think the DWR does a pretty good job trying to promote the fun of fishing.

Yeah I was really impressed! The kids had a blast and then the DWR sent home tackle and a mini box with them so now they will be bugging their parents to take them out so they can use their "cool stuff".

The fish are pretty scratched up. There were 2 bluegill that kept swimmin around near the top... all the kids want to try and get them but they aren't biting a thing. I guess they are covered with fungus or something... so just an FYI to tell the kids to stop wasting their time with those ones.

[cool][#0000ff]There is a mortality factor, even though it is catch and release. I had to cut off several hooks tonight, from fish that were hooked deeply. The stress of being transplanted, plus being caught a few times, leads some fish to develop skin fungus or simply to turn belly up. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Fishermen everywhere get excited when they see fish near the surface. It doesn't decrease their excitement when you try to explain that the fish are injured or dying. All they care about is that they wanna catch a fish.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]By the way, the fishing was suprisingly good today, the last day of the fair. Just about all the kids caught fish...including some nice bass and catfish. Sure is great to see those kids light up when they catch that first fish.[/#0000ff]

[cool][#0000ff]You will get there. Just keep learning and putting yourself in a position for luck to find you. The more you go fishing the greater the chance that you will catch fish.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Fishing is like many things in life. It is a combination of science, art and luck. We all start out as unknowing rookies. After that, we all have our own learning curves and develop our own levels of enthusiasm. At some point in the future, when you are a skilled and successful anglerette, you will look back and ask "Was I ever really that stupid?" Of course, it is not a matter of being stupid...just less informed and less experienced. [/#0000ff]
