I realize this is an odd post for this forum, but I figure with all the fishing experience here, someone could point me in the right direction. I'll be going to Cancun in November and I am trying to find some info about shore fishing. There is plenty of info on the web about deep sea fishing and chartering boats, and I will do a little of that, but I would like to do some surf fishing, but can't seem to find any info on it. If any of you have some information or experience down there, let me know-Thanks!

There is a place called Nichupte' Lagoon that offers shore fishing for various toothy critters like barracuda, needlefish, etc. next to the bridge

Sounds like fun! We were down there last november and went on a charter from puerto aventuras and caught a bunch of different fish. YOu never know what you'll bring up. The barracuda were vicious when you had something on the line, they'd cut the line or slice the fish in half. It was a real blast. But we also shore fished a couple times in the morning before the wifes got out of bed. We just fished infront of the hotel and we caught needle fish, lady fish and grunts. We used rapalas, and standard bass top water lures, as well as big #15 panther martins. Most of the vacation forums were pretty tight lipped on the shore fishing for some reason, but we had a blast. good luck!

We went last year to Akumal and I noticed, just like you, that the forums just don't talk about shore fishing. Either is charter boat fishing or fly fishing down in Sian Kaan. I did fish from the shore a little, but the only surf fishing I have ever done has been for stripers and bluefish in Southern Virginia and North Carolina--I quickly learned that Mexico is a whole different deal. I did catch a grunt up in akumal and a tiny little snapper down at Boca Paila. How far were you able to cast out? That was a big problem for me in that there was a lot of wind and anything heavy enough to cast into the wind was probably way, way too big for the smaller reef fish. Did catch some big ole' cudas out on the boat.
