Went to Deer Creek my brother and I yesterday from 3:30-7. Lets say that in the two years ive fished D.C. for smallies it was the best outing. We caught and released 40 plus smallies. We caught a mojority of them with blue fox size two in silver and panther martin size four with a gold blade. The fish were a lot bigger than in times past lots of 12 to 16 inchers. Only caught 10 that were under 12 inches. Need to get a digital camera, cuz they were some fish worth snapping. Very surprised at how many decent smallies were up there.

You mentioned "trout not biting" in your Deer Creek report. I just wonder how well the trout population is doing there.
According to the DWR fish stocking report, only 1274 rainbows, ~9 1/2 inches long, were planted there all summer long. That's next to nothing considering the size of Deer Creek, and the numbers that go into other lakes around northern Utah.
What do you think?

If the trout were not biting they were not being fished for. Not to worry the trout population at DC is alive, healthy, and active. Fished yesterday morning on the way to work was targeting the eyes .....zippo, nada, but managed four troutskies in about an hour by the island. All betweeen 12 and 16 inches all bows fat and sassy. Boys and girls the real fishing is just getting started. Saw another 9 pound eye taken from DC in the Wasatch wave (local paper) last evening.

According to this DWR article, 40,000 extra trout went into Deer Creek last fall.

I was fishing the west side by the train tracks. Near the buoys by the dam. And yes the trout are alive and well. Have caught 18 inchers in august. I did try for some trout for about an hour not one bite. Which was weird because this time last year at the same spot We were nailing them. Give it a week or two and the trout fishing should be amazing. oh and i was fishing from shore, my brother hit it tuesday and it was good still. The storm will put a damper on things though.
