Strawberry Report Saturday 9/23
#1
Fished Strawberry Saturday morning. Launched around 8:30 (Uncles 24 foot boat, with my uncle, 3 cousins, myself and one cousins 11 year old boy, so 6 of us...) and drove over to the Ladders where we tried 2 GPS marked honey holes and only caught one fish. We idled over to another honey hole marked on the GPS and we finally started catching fish. It certainly wasn't like the last few weeks however as the fish only came by about every few minutes or so, and then it was sometimes only one fish. In weeks past there were fish on the finder at all times, but not today. We fished till 3:00 p.m. and ended up with 56 fish between us. 2 of the fish were fat rainbows, at 21 inches and 19 inches, and there were 8 other cutts over 22 inches. If you do the math, 56 fish between 6 people in 6 hours...was a pretty slow day on the Berry. Less than 2 fish per person per hour average. However, every few minutes at least one of us had action or was reeling in a fish, so it was just good enough to keep us interested. Personal big fish ever for 4 of the people on the boat, and the 11 year old even caught 4 of the fish, with one going over 22 inches that he proudly kept! Water temp about 55 degrees, we fished in 31 feet of water, and there was no wind all day! Must have been a really slow day for everyone else as when we put the boat back on the trailer, some Strawberry officials came over and were doing surveys and such and taking pictures and said we had more success than most that they had talked to that day. No surface action whatsoever, even though we tried on and off most of the day.

I used to N.ot have E.nough T.ime O.ff to go fishing.  Then I retired.  Now I have less time than I had before. Sheesh.

Thanks for the report Randy. Did you do any scouting north of mud creek? I am tempted to give it a try tomorrow.

Even though it was slow, it sounds like you guys caught some nice fish. Thanks for the report.

Hey Mike,
Once we launched we went directly to the ladders, and when we were done we went directly back to the marina. The boat was not running well and we didn't want to push our luck!
We only saw about 5 or 6 other boats at the ladders and they were really close to the shore right where the ladders parking area is.
We saw a few boats up around Mud Creek as we were coming in, but again, not too many.
We caught all of our fish jigging right near the bottom. Sometimes the same fish would go around and bump each of our rigs at least once before one of us finally caught it!
Hope you get into them if you go tomorrow!
